| Profile | Akiko Kawanaka,the Japanese composes living
in Tokyo,makes her first contribution to
chamber music with "To thr waters" (movements of a river). Akiko Kawanaka is studying composition under Professor T.Hirayoshi at the Faculllty of Music of the Toho-Gakuen University in Tokyo. The intellectual claims of the European musical tradition are not lost in this music,which is written for solo oboe and piano-forte(harp),thus pointing the way towards an internationally understandable form of musical expression. | Commentary | The oboe is characterized by its high sonority
in view of both lyricism and motility.Besides
its homogeneous tone color,I could get some
kind of new feel of the oboe with the use
of extended techniques like chords, overblowing,double-trills,and
so on.In this unrestricted line of delicate
breath of the oboe mingles the piano,brings
up a sound texture, or presents a background,which
creates a stream of irreversible time in
infinite space,and that I hope to be a hearty
cry,never in a loud voice. Completed in Siena in the summer of 1989,got a prize in the Japan Music Competition the same year.A little revision was made in 1991. |
